The vegetation has undergone, over the course of the centuries, a series of deep mutations, above all, considering that up to the early Middle Ages wooded strips covered the greater part of the land. The presence of pastures and woods, and in general the presence of waters and the possibility to sustain animals, favoured the settlement and continuing presence of man in this area from at least the 18th millennium B.C.  Therefore, it is a multi-millennial history that has effected, through continual and deep transformation, the current configuration of the agrarian landscape.
