Just like the Church of Sant'Anna, the Church of Santa Maria Scolanova (13th century), was one of the four synagogues that existed in the city’s Jewish district.
Today you can see it by means of an exterior stair on the western façade of the building which is entirely built of stones.
Inside one can admire a beautiful painting -clearly of Byzantine origin- representing the Madonna dei Martiri (Madonna of martyrdoms), the protector of sailors. The main facade opens on via Scolanova, is monocuspid in shape and is impressive for the stark simplicity of its structure.
Nowadays Santa Maria di Scolanova is once more a Synagogue where the Trani Jewish community can now practice its cult.
