The hypogeum is known in archaeological literature also with different names: Mandorleto-Grotticelle and Boccaforno. It is placed in Piano San Giovanni, in via On. Giuseppe Matarrese. The events accompanying the discovery and then the finding, in recent years, of this hypogeum explain its different denominations. It was accidentally discovered in 1895, in a land belonging to the Lords Scocchera, called Mandorleto-Grotticelle. In that occasion all the six room, composing the hypogeum, were explored except for the access dromos that remained buried, and a rich funerary dowry was collected, soon scattered and lost. In 1979, following the construction works in contrada Piano San Giovanni, a huge hypogeum, bereft of dowry, was found in the Boccaforno locality. With that name, then, the new hypogeum was called, before an attentive verification of the plans revealed the discover of the ancient hypogeum Scocchera, by then thought destroyed. The hypogeum included some plastic-decorated pots, statues of worshippers, some glass cups, earrings and a gold sceptre. In the room  in axis with the dromos, preceded by a semi-columned access, capitals and pediment (naiskos), can be found traces of paint. In the hypogeum Scocchera were found a series of pots with red figures, an anatomical bronze breastplate and an embossed  Celtic helmet, probably a war trophy.
